My Pathway story,

Meet MAson!

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Mason since he was four years old, and while my focus is now primarily on working with young adults, Mason has played a pivotal role in shaping my journey. Each year, we continue our tradition of visiting the pumpkin patch, and it’s truly remarkable to witness how much he has evolved and grown since our first meeting. Now, we share conversations about his friends, favorite games, his likes and dislikes, and even what he wants to eat—milestones that reflect his incredible progress.

From the very beginning, Mason taught me that meaningful connections can be made even without words. I am deeply grateful to his mother, Allie, for allowing me to remain a part of Mason’s life and witness firsthand how he continues to flourish on his own path to independence.

My Connection with Mason: A Source of Inspiration

Welcome to Pathway to Independence! I’m thrilled to share my journey and passion with you.

My journey began with a profound and inspiring experience working with a previously non-speaking autistic boy named Mason. Witnessing Mason's transformation from a child with limited verbal communication to a fully speaking individual, excelling in math and reading, was nothing short of miraculous. This experience ignited my passion for the empowerment that comes through communication and its profound impact on one's quality of life. The joy of helping Mason find his voice and embrace his independence reinforced my belief in the transformative nature of language and connection.

Diagnosed in my twenties after college, I have a personal understanding of the challenges neurodivergent young adults face. I skipped two grades in high school, but I struggled during my first two years of college and my first year after graduation due to a lack of structure. My experiences navigating these challenges inform my approach to coaching and mentoring young adults.

Initially, I envisioned opening a private practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist specializing in childhood apraxia of speech. However, my path evolved as I rediscovered my love for education and AAC users, while working in a high school setting to acquire my hours to become a SLP-A. This role allowed me to see firsthand how language skills can significantly enhance educational outcomes and overall quality of life, fueling my desire to create meaningful change.

My academic journey then led me to consider founding a faculty school. As I progressed through my graduate program in Educational Leadership, I realized that systemic change in education is a complex and challenging endeavor. Nevertheless, I developed a profound appreciation for working with young adults and teenagers and recognized a critical gap in resources for individuals with disabilities once they reach adulthood. This realization sparked a new passion in me to foster community and connection for this underserved population.

Through my work with pragmatic social groups for AAC users, I saw the immense value of social interaction and skill-building. Driven by this insight, I dedicated months to researching and developing comprehensive groups focused on social skills, life skills, and conceptual skills. My vision was to create a supportive environment where autistic adults could thrive, advocate for themselves, gain employment, and fully realize their potential.

Today, I am beyond excited to introduce Pathway to Independence—a space where community, empowerment, and personal growth are at the forefront. I am committed to guiding individuals on their journey toward independence with love and dedication, embracing the unique, non-linear nature of growth. I promise to do all things with love, including coaching you!
